When Fellowship Church started in February of 1990, my life changed. My wife and I decided to join a small group of people trying to start in church in Irving, TX. When Ed and Lisa Young came to pastor the church, I quickly became an unpaid staff member doing whatever needed to be done. In 1992 Ed Young asked me to pray about coming on staff. I didn’t think there was any way, but it took 3 years for God to work on me. In 1995, I became a full-time staff member. I have lead many different ministries including small groups, bible studies, Creative Church Conference, Fellowship Connection and the student ministry. Everything I know about church I learned from Ed. He is the greatest leader I have ever met and he has challenged me since the first day I met him. I tell you all that to introduce this blog. I’ve never been a big blog fan. Ed challenged me to do one so here I am. I don’t know if I am a leader, a visionary, a go-to guy or whatever, but I know people who are and I have learned a lot over the years. I know a few things about church because I have succeeded and failed many times. I also tend to look at things with a cynical eye. That’s why I will always have a HCO – hot church opinion - from time to time. You may or may not agree and that’s okay. I will never take someone else’s idea and make it mine like I see so much in the blogging world. There are some who spout off “leadership principles” like they invented them. Never mind that those principles have been around for decades. It’s’ time we give credit where credit is due. Anyway, I hope you will join me on this adventure. I am no one special, I haven’t written a book. I will try my best not to use the overused words “leadership, leader, leading.” No one is tearing down the door to interview me – which is great. I am a “behind the scenes” kind of guy. That is how I operate best. There are too many people in blog world who try to play someone else’s hand. I try to play the one dealt me. If you follow this blog, I think you will laugh, get mad, think and see things differently. My goal is to give this space to the glory of God to use however He sees fit. reading, watching sports, i enjoy painting in watercolor, following 24 and lost on tv. i love the local church and its power to change the world.
